The Florida Department of State will be accepting applications for the African-American Cultural and Historical grant program, between October 11, 2021 and November 30, 2021.  The purpose of this grant program is to provide funding for construction projects at facilities in Florida that highlight the contributions, culture, or history of African-Americans.   Funding for this program is provided by the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) program, as authorized by the United States Department of the Treasury

Staff is seeking authorization to apply for the above grant funding in the amount of ($500,000).  If successful, the funds would be used to renovate Tate Gym at Dan Callaway Park. Renovations would include, but not be limited to: new storm windows, new basketball goals, new scoreboards, renovation of gym foyer, replace bleachers with accordion style seating, replace stage curtains and lighting and replace entry doors. If awarded the City would have 24 months to complete the project.

All funds disbursed under this program may only be used in compliance with both State and Federal regulations including applicable provisions of 2 CFR 200, Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards, and all other applicable statutes, regulations, and executive orders.

This project is in accord with the Parks and Recreation Master Plan needs assessment.
