For the past 30 plus years, the City of Riviera Beach has annually held Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Parades as a part of the overall MLK Celebration Event. The parade typically draws several thousand spectators and as many as 120 parade entries. This year with the support of the Black Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County, the City will also host a 5k and 10k road race as a part of the respective MLK Celebration Event.
For the planning of the 2022 MLK Celebration Event activities, staff is requesting authorization to temporarily close the following roads on January 15, 2022:
1) Blue Heron Blvd. from Congress Avenue to Avenue “L” during the hours of 6:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
2) 13th Street from Avenue “R” to Australian Avenue during the hours of 6:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
3) Avenue “R” from Blue Heron Boulevard during the hours of 6:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Maps depicting the 5k and 10k race courses are attached as Attachments 3 and 4. As mentioned earlier, the Black Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County is sponsoring the road races.
Attached is Resolution No. 121-21 which authorizes the above delineated street closures.
