The City was invited to pre-apply for a nationwide contest for a $90,000 non-matching Perk Your Parks grant through National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) and Niagara Water.
The cities proposed projects were selected to move forward in the contest.
NRPA will provide $6,000 to the city to develop a marketing campaign from which the public can vote on their favorite project throughout the nation.
The two projects are the Urban Farm Plan and Federal Gardens Urban Trail. Both projects are reflective of the data from the Parks Master Plan public outreach.
The Urban Farm has some grant funding, however, if this is selected the farm will be able to expand education and outreach as well as begin to provide residents plant materials and supplies to improve the City’s environmental resiliency and implementing the agriculture plan.
The Federal Gardens Urban Trail is a formalized connector system within the neighborhood using existing infrastructure to provide residents with wellness education, improved connectivity to parks and schools and possibly new stabilized surfaces as they traverse the area.
