On September 24, 2020 the City Council approved Resolution 86-20 awarding Bid 996-20-1 to Brothers Construction for the replacement of the Palm Beach Isles Bridges. During the bid process, the residents of Palm Beach Isles requested and were granted the redesign of the Grand Bahama Bridge to minimize impacts to the adjacent residents. The two residents along the south side the Grand Bahama Bridge would have had a portion of the property converted to a right of way to facilitate the bridges redesign as well as a slight shift of the centerline. In meetings with the residents, it was agreed to redesign the bridge to keep the centerline as existing, eliminate the planter boxes, hang the utilities from underneath the bridge, and minimize the recovery area outside the travel lanes. Based on the modification described, the design team must start over on designing the bridge and provide the contractor an entirely new set of construction plans while the four Island Drive bridges are under construction. Additionally, after construction started on November 2^nd, additional changes have been needed at Island Drive including turbidity barrier design and installation, canal wall repair, asphalt paving, new conduits, tree removal, and planter wall construction and installation.

On November 18, 2020 the City Council approved Resolution 111-20 authorizing the redesign of Grand Bahama bridge and the redesign commenced. Through the second quarter of 2021, the design team in conjunction with Brothers Construction finalized the design and maximized constructability to limit impacts to the adjacent neighbors. Due to escalating commodity pricing, quantity adjustments in the materials, delays and idle equipment and deviations from the original design, the contractor has provided  a quote for $983,831.04 to complete construction of the Grand Bahama Bridge and request for 115 contract days to complete the new scope of work. During construction, change requests 1-5 have been requested and approved totaling $86,672.35 for a total of $1,070,503.39 in change orders to date.

In conjunction, Erdman Anthony has requested $202,000 in anticipated construction administration and oversight costs based on the extended construction schedule requested by Brothers.
