The Library Advisory Board acts as a liaison between the community and its government for the purpose of:
- Serving in an advisory capacity and providing recommendations through the library director to the city manager and the city council for overall improvements within the library.
- Keeping itself informed of library needs and serving as a forum for discussion, as well as to encourage maximum use of library programs and services.
- Recommending programs and policies for the efficient operation of the library and advocate for the library.
The Library Advisory Board consists of five (5) regular members and two (2) alternate members. Board members are required to be registered voters, reside in the city of Riviera Beach, serve a one-year term, and attend monthly meetings that are held the second Tuesday of each month. Board members may be reappointed after their first year of service, for as long as they wish to serve, per council’s approval.
Currently, the Riviera Beach Library Advisory Board is comprised of three (3) regular members and zero (o) alternate members. Library staff received applications from regular board member Dr. Darlene Cruz (District 1), requesting to be reappointed as a regular board member, and from Mrs. Kendra Spence-Wester (District 2), an alternate member requesting to be reappointed as a regular board member. Staff also received applications from Ms. Vernique Williams (District 3), requesting to be newly appointed as a regular member, and from Mrs. LaJuanda Williams (District 1), requesting to be appointed to the board as an alternate member. Please note that Mrs. LaJuanda Williams is a former regular board member, having previously served on the Library Advisory Board from July 17, 2013 - November 5, 2019. With Council's approval of the requested two (2) reappointments and two (2) appointments to this board, there will be one (1) remaining alternate member's seat to fill.
