Background/Summary: 

The Youth Empowerment was established by of the Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County provided direction to the Criminal Justice Commission (CJC) on February 15th, 2007, to develop a prevention plan that would curve the violence occurring throughout Palm Beach County.  A study was completed by Florida State University College of Criminology & Criminal Justice Department, which aggregated data, and identified programs to be implemented within those communities that was being plagued by crime, Riviera Beach was chosen as one of the communities.  On December 5th, 2006, the Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Commission (CJC) signed an Interlocal Agreement with Riviera Beach to develop the Youth Violence Prevention Project; most commonly known as the Youth Empowerment Program.  In 2014, the Youth Violence Project was relocated from under the direction of the Criminal Justice Commission (CJC) to Palm Beach Youth Services Division.
