The Southside Coalition of Riviera Beach Heights, Inc. was organized in 1996 with the specific purpose of providing after-school and summer programs, tutoring, arts and crafts as well as spiritual mentoring services. Further, this organization in cooperation with Concerned Mothers has over the past twenty (20) years+, untiringly assisted not only the youth in the neighborhood, but has also extended social enhancement opportunities to adult residents.
Given that the Brooks Center is located in District Three and the Southside Coalition serves residents of this respective District, in an effort to recognize ongoing and valuable service to the City in general and to Southside residents in particular, Councilwoman Shirley Lanier spearheaded an effort to conduct the naming of the meeting space located within the Richard and Annie Brooks Community Center, which is located in District 3.
To this end, at the annual Holiday Event held on Friday, December 18, 2020, Ms. Lanier recognized the respective organizations and its members by providing a ceremonial plaque recognizing the President, Vice-President, and organization as a whole. The President, Dolores P. Dawson was honored with a rose bouquet. Ms. Lanier unveiled two signs naming the meeting space within the Center after the organization. The Holiday Event incorporated a toy and food distribution.
In follow-up, at this time, Councilperson Lanier is requesting the Council’s consideration of this request so as to effectuation the formal conduct to name the Space within the Richard and Annie Brooks Community Center Space to the Southside Coalition of Riviera Beach Heights Multipurpose Room.
