Pursuant to the prior comprehensive review and recommendations of the City’s Charter Review Advisory Board in 2017-2018, the City Council has determined that certain amendments (the “Charter Amendments”) to the City Charter should be considered for adoption, as provided herein.
Pursuant to Section 166.031, Florida Statutes, as applicable, the City Council is required to submit Charter Amendments to the electors of the City for approval or rejection.
This proposed Charter Amendment intends to amend Section 3 "Notice of Candidacy-Filing Fee" of Article II "Government" of the City Charter by reducing the filing fee for a candidate to qualify for any elective office, and providing for candidates for elected office to be able to qualify by petition method as an alternative to paying a filing fee.
