| | | | | | | | Background/Summary: | During City Council workshop discussions and deliberations, the City Council conceptually agreed that levying a millage rate of 8.4520 mills for fiscal year 2020-2021 would be sufficient to run the General Fund operations of the City. The proposed millage rate is 6.22% higher than the rolled back rate of 7.9567. The rolled back rate is the rate that would generate the same amount of property tax revenues as the current year.
When levying a millage, taxing authorities must follow Chapter 200, Florida Statutes, which governs the Truth in Millage Process (TRIM). The Truth in Millage (TRIM) process informs taxpayers and the public about the legislative process which determines local ad valorem taxes. Florida state laws provide for public input and for governing board of taxing authorities to state specific reason for proposed changes in taxes and the budget. |
