The premise of this agenda item is to recognize Juneteenth Day in the City of Riviera Beach in perpetuity as well as to add Juneteenth Day as a permanent City holiday for all employees. Pursuant to the desire of the City Council to recognize the contributions that African Americans have made to this City and to the nation, the City of Riviera Beach prides itself on its diversity, seeing it as a strength. The current and previous City Councils have worked diligently to ensure the fair and equitable treatment of all individuals and have advocated for diversity and inclusion in the City’s business practices and operational procedures.
The City’s plan, Riviera Beach 2030, is intended to eliminate obstacles to eradicating institutional bias and racism, which do not allow for the forward and progressive process of celebrating the City’s diversity as a strength to propel it in the 21st century.
Attached is a resolution recognizing Juneteenth Day as a City holiday and commemorating the arduous road to equality that African Americans have traveled since the founding of this country.
