Section 11 entitled Chairperson of Article II entitled of the City's Charter indicates the chairperson serves at the pleasure of the City Council.
At the February 19, 2020 City Council Meeting, the City Clerk announced the selection of the chairperson and chair pro tem would be on the April 1, 2020 City Council Meeting Agenda.
The terms for elected officials changed in 2012 from two-year to three-year terms. No changes were made by the sitting board, at that time, nor subsequent boards, as to how long the chairperson and chair pro tem would serve during the off election year.
As you are aware and as was previously stated at the aforementioned meeting, 2020 is an off election season for the City of Riviera Beach; however, the selection of a chairperson and chair pro tem is proper at this time or any time in the future, if the board desires.
