In 2014 City Staff made application to the Palm Beach County Metropolitan Planning Organization for decorative street lights along both Congress Avenue and Australian Avenue. Under Resolution No. 126-17 the City Council approved support for the implementation of projects at both locations. Under Resolution No. 36-18, the City Council approved execution of the required Inter-local Agreement with Palm Beach County for the operation and maintenance obligation for lights along Congress Avenue. Construction of the Congress Avenue Project began in the last quarter of 2019 and construction is anticipated to complete in 2020.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has been working diligently on the Australian Avenue project and is nearing completion of the investigation and preliminary design phase. The FDOT anticipates final construction drawings completed by the end of 2020, bidding the project in the first quarter of 2021, and construction commencement in the summer of 2021. The enclosed agreement mimics the existing agreement executed by the City in 2018 and makes provision for the City to maintain the decorative lights once installed by the Florida Department of Transportation.
Staff requests that City Council approve the resolution for the execution of an Interlocal Agreement with Palm Beach County for the operation and maintenance of the decorative streetlights on Congress Avenue.
