The City’s annual submission of an application to Palm Beach County Department of Economic Sustainability for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for FY 2018-2019 for the reconstruction of Avenue “M” from West 23rd Street to West 27th Street, which is identified in the Northwest Neighborhood Strategy Area, was granted. Palm Beach County has approved the application and is providing grant funding in the amount of $160,890 for the aforementioned project. The projects consist of demolition of the roadway, construction of asphalt pavement roadway, water system, sanitary sewer system, curb, gutter and improvements of sidewalks.
The project initiated construction in April 2019, and due to startup delays, Hurricane Dorian, and other logistical challenges, the contractor has requested a contract time extension. At the October 2, 2019, City Council meeting, Resolution 95-19 authorized the execution of Amendment 001 extending the contract with Palm Beach County to January 31, 2020. At this time, the contractor has requested another extension lengthening the project’s time for construction until March 30, 2020, due to difficulties switching residents from the old watermain to the new watermain. This action requires amendment to the agreement with Palm Beach County.
