A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RIVIERA BEACH, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, AWARDING BID NO. 985-20-1 TO WALKER DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION, OF BOCA RATON FLORIDA FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A METAL APPARATUS AWNING AT TEMPORARY FIRE STATION 88 LOCATED AT THE EXISTING PUBLIC WORKS FACILITY IN THE AMOUNT OF $218,500; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPROVE CHANGE ORDERS UP TO TEN PERCENT (10%); AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES TO MAKE PAYMENT FOR SAME FROM PROJECT NUMBER 18034; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

Background/Summary: 

The City of Riviera Beach FY19 Budget provides $6 million dollars in funding for the design and reconstruction of Fire Station #88. Due to the size and orientation of the parcel, the existing fire operations will not be able to remain in the existing facility. At the September 18, 2019 Council Meeting, the purchase of a temporary facility was approved to provide a location and space for operations to continue during the design and construction phase of the project. Due to the ongoing concerns of the Fire Department Staff, the project is being expedited to provide a state-of-the-art facility for first responders. As of Friday November 8, 2019, the portable facility arrived at the temporary station location and is in full operation.

 

Staff issued Bid No. 985-20-1 on November 3, 2019 and appropriately advertised in the Palm Beach Post. A mandatory pre-bid meeting was conducted onsite at the Temporary Fire Station 88 on November 14, 2019 to ensure all participants in the bid process are familiar with the site conditions. On December 5, 2019, the City received one bid from Walker Design & Construction in the amount of $218,500. Walker Design & Construction shall design and permit the footers, connections, supports, and cover the apparatus area as designated in the scope document.
