Hon. Mayor, Chairperson, and City Councilmembers:
Pursuant to the direction that the city council provided at your October workshop, the staff have received cost estimates for addressing the concerns that residents within the Monroe Heights neighborhood have expressed. As a result of the direction provided, staff consultants have come up with six viable options, deviating in price from $150,000 all the way up to $5.7 million. The intent of this technical memorandum is to allow the City Council to review the options communicated in the document, with the intent of proffering three options to the public for consideration at a community meeting sometime in February. Staff will identify funding streams and will determine a project scope and outline to provide additional information and clarity to the City Council at your second regular meeting in January.
Furthermore, staff would like to bring forward discussions about the option of making improvements at the intersection of Avenue R, West 14th St., and W. 13th St. An additional technical memo is attached for your edification. Staff will be prepared to address both of these topics at your second meeting in January as a discussion and deliberation item. Assuming that the board provides us with direction, we will commence the appropriate community conversations with the intention of moving actively to see these projects come to fruition.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jonathan Evans, MPA, MBA, ICMA-CM
