On October 16, 2019 the Riviera Beach Public Library submitted a Florida Talks grant application to the Florida Humanities Council (FHC). Notification was received on November 12, 2019 stating the Library is being awarded grant funds in the amount of $300.00 for FY2019-2020.
Community project grants received from the FHC provide support for the planning and implementation of public humanities programs and resources that meet the needs and interests of local communities. These projects may include: lecture series and panel discussions, reading and discussion groups, film series, oral history projects, exhibitions and the development of cultural resources that complement public programming.
This fiscal year’s FHC grant funds will be used to defray costs for a presentation of "Respect: Soul Music and the Civil Rights Movement," by John Capouya, an author commissioned by the Library to perform in recognition of Black History Month. This presentation will be held at the Lindsey Davis Center on Friday, February 21, 2020, free of charge with limited seating.
