To discuss the possibility of creating a City of Riviera Beach Youth Council that is modeled in concert with the Florida League of Cities Youth Council initiative.

Background/Summary: 

The Florida League of Cities has a Youth Council Program that provides opportunities for young persons to be exposed to municipal government.  Such opportunity provides for their engagement in processes that allow their experiences and knowledge to address, improve and resolve issues which affect the needs of youth citizenry.  

 

Generally, "municipal Youth Councils are special citywide councils composed of students from different high schools within their city. They typically serve as an advisory board to the city commission/council. Students who serve on youth councils tend to become the leaders of tomorrow.  

 

Accordingly, Florida League of Cities has a wealth of information and resources to assist city leaders with establishing or expanding such Youth Councils locally. To this end, this particular item is being discussed in an effort to determine whether the creation of a Riviera Beach Youth Council at this time, would prove worthy.
