Inez Mickens is a life-long Riviera Beach resident. In 2008 she was named Riviera Beach's Senior Citizen of the Year. You may see her walking along Australian Avenue with her walking stick every morning, sometimes picking up litter along the way. Mrs. Inez has spent years investing in the community. She makes cleaning up the neighborhood a part of her regular routine. Every morning she picks up all of the cans and bottles around her house. She said the outside tells the public what the inside looks like. By cleaning up the community, Mrs. Mickens plays her part in cooperating with the city's long-term beautification plan. Mrs. Mickens was part of "Operation Dead End" a City of Riviera Beach effort to give the city a gradual makeover. Operation Dead End is a program intended to beautify the city of Riviera Beach and stop crime. Decorative signs were placed at entry and exit routes on major roads and city subdivisions among other city improvements. Mrs. Mickens has raised thousands of dollars for charitable organizations. She was a volunteer at the Department of Juvenile Justice as a mentor. In 2015 Inez was recognized for her support of the Sickle Cell Foundation.
