Subject: 

A resolution of the City Council of the City of Riviera Beach Palm Beach County, Florida, authorizing the purchase of J&B Motel; authorizing staff to purchase property located at 3501 Blue Heron Blvd. a/k/a J&B Motel and former Schooners Motel in the amount of $500,000, authorizing the finance director to appropriate fund balance and amend the budget in the impact fee capital budget and make payment for same from account number 305-0202-519-0-6100.

Recommendation/Motion: 

Staff recommends approval of the resolution approving the settlement agreement between the City and J&B Motel and the purchase and sales agreement between these same parties.  Copies of the stipulated agreement and purchase and sales agreement are attached.

Background/Summary: 

The City initiated a code enforcement foreclosure action against the J&B Motel Corporation to recover monies outstanding with respect to existing code enforcement liens.  Subsequent to the filing of the foreclosure action the owner of the property passed away and as part of the settlement of the owner's estate the beneficiaries of the estate have offered to sell the property that is the subject of the foreclosure action to the City of Riviera Beach for the sum of $500,000.  In accordance with terms expressed in the attached settlement agreement and purchase and sales contract.
