The roof at Tate's gym is the original roof from 1967. Staff had requested funds in the FY 2018 budget request but the replacement was not funded. Hurricane Irma did damage to the roof, however, once the afternoon rains became fairly frequent it was obvious that there was more damage than previously identified.
The need to replace the roof immediately was apparent and we needed to get the work done prior to summer camp beginning.
Most of the damage had been documented with FEMA and our insurance carrier as a part of post storm evaluation.
The purchasing department and public works obtained the three quotes needed and the carrier confirmed the replacement would be covered under our policy, however the HVAC and Electrical may not be covered because its not related to the storm damage but age.
Subsequent work done as a part of the roof permitting process identified that HVAC work needed to be completed as a part of the roof work as well as complete replacement of electrical wiring and service on the roof that does not comply with code.
The procurement code has provisions for emergency work that can be authorized by the City Manager or designee.
Attached to this item is the contract, the memo from Richard Blankenship, Parks and Recreation Director to City Manager Hoskins and the bid tabulations for the roof work and the HVAC work. The electrical work proposal is forthcoming.
The breakdown of cost is:
Roof work $136,685.00
HVAC work $6,350.00
Electrical $23,000.00 (verbal estimate, awaiting proposal)
Total Project Estimate: $166,035.00
