A resolution of the City Council of the City of Riviera Beach, Palm Beach County, Florida, awarding bid No. 895-17-3 to B&B Underground Construction Inc. of West Palm Beach, Florida for the construction of West 11th through West 14th Street between Avenue U and the Avenue R in an amount not to exceed $5,598,234.25; authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute the contract; authorizing the City Manager to approve change orders up to ten percent (10%); total contract value shall not exceed $6,158,057.68 without authorization by the City Council; authorizing the Director of Finance and Administrative Services to make payment for same from account numbers 461-1127-541-0-6301, 413-1430-533-0-6301, and 311-1127-541-0-6351 and providing an effective date.

Recommendation/Motion: Staff recommends that the City Council approve the resolution.

Background/Summary: 

West 11th through 14th Street, between Avenue U and the Avenue R, has been scheduled for reconstruction for fiscal year 2015-16. The project consists of demolition of the roadway, installation of exfiltration trench for water quality treatment, construction of new asphalt, curb, gutter and installation of sidewalks. The project was advertised for bids on April 24, 2017. Two bidders submitted bids ranging from $5,598,234.25 to $6,586,444.00. The lowest bid was submitted by B&B Underground Contractors, Inc. based in West Palm Beach Florida. The Purchasing Department has reviewed the bids and recommends award of bid to the lowest bidder, B&B Underground Contractors, Inc. in the amount of $5,598,234.25. Staff recommends that the City Council award the bid for reconstruction of West 11th through 147th Street, between Avenue U and the Avenue R to B&B Underground Contractors, Inc.

 

Based on the bid results, staff requests City Council approval of contracting with B&B Underground Contractors, Inc. to provide construction services for the reconstruction of 11th through 14th between Avenue U and Avenue R.
