Each year, the nation through the efforts of, and in conjunction with the American Public Works Association (APWA), recognizes the work of Public Works employees and organizations during National Public Works Week. This year’s celebration will be from May 21, 2017 through May 27, 2017. The City currently has 53 employees entrusted with the responsibility to maintain the City’s roadways, drainage systems, City buildings, and vehicle and equipment maintenance. Public Works also carries out numerous ongoing special assignments including special events setup which includes standby, participation and break-down. The individuals in the Public Works Department are deserving of recognition as they work tirelessly to keep our City’s infrastructure maintained.
National Public Works Week promotes awareness that Public Works is vital to the growth and quality of life in our City. The health, safety and comfort of our citizens greatly depends upon Public Works systems such as our streets, storm water utility, public buildings, solid waste collection and disposal, and vehicle and equipment maintenance. The efficiency of our qualified and dedicated Public Works personnel is materially influenced by our citizens’ attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform. For additional insight into what services Public works provides, everyone is invited to stop by the Public Works display booth for National Public Works Week that will be set up in the lobby of City Hall, May 21, 2017 through May 27, 2017.
