Recommendation/Motion: Approve the submittal of the grant application to Florida Department of Environmental Protection for $200,000 for Municipal Beach Improvements. Authorize the City Manager and City Clerk to execute  Grant application and Grant Agreement.

Background/Summary: 

Staff has identified several areas of the Municipal Beach that need renovation, improvement or upgrade. Staff has also identified a funding source to assist with these items.

 

The Florida Department of Environmental Protections Land and Water Conservation Fund is a $200,000 grant program that requires a 100% match. Once awarded the grant allows three years to budget, match and complete the project. 

 

The elements that would be renovated, improved or upgraded are:

1)replace the playground structures

2)replace and upgrade the pedestrian controls on the dune

3)replace the guard tower

4)replace the shower towers

5)replace water fountains/misters

6)replace the restroom fixtures

7)coat and seal the restroom floors

8)upgrade signage and life safety information boards

9)upgrade the sand volleyball courts

10) replace grills

11) Replace ADA beach wheelchair

These improvements will provide for long term enjoyment of the facility by residents and visitors and improve the function and aesthetics of the park.
