In August 2006, the City entered into a two-year lease agreement with Riviera Beach Maritime Academy Corporation for the operation of a charter school on City owned land near the former Riviera Beach Elementary School at 251 West 11th Street (PCN: 56-43-42-33-06-030-0010).
In November 2008, the lease agreement established in 2006 expired and the City established a new one year lease agreement at $500 per month with the Riviera Beach Maritime Academy. This new lease agreement created a lease term from November 5, 2008 to October 5, 2009.
From October 2009 to June 2011, the Riviera Beach Maritime Academy operated on a month to month lease at $500 per month.
On June 9, 2011, the City executed a two-year lease agreement with the Maritime Academy, which extended the lease term from June 15, 2011 to August 30, 2013 (1st amendment) at $500 per month.
On August 7, 2013, the City extended the lease agreement for two additional years at $500 per month (2nd amendment) covering the lease term of August 30, 2013 to August 30, 2015.
On August 19, 2015, the City extended the lease agreement for one additional year at $500 per month (3rd amendment) covering the lease term August 30, 2015 to August 30, 2016.
The Riviera Beach Maritime Academy is requesting that the City Council authorize a new 50 year lease at $1.00 per year extending the term from August 30, 2016 to August 30, 2066 (4th amendment).
Since 2006, Riviera Beach Maritime Academy has continued to successfully operate as a not-for-profit charter school which provides an educational and training program for high school youth who desire to learn about the maritime industry.
This agreement would reduce annual revenue by $5,999 in comparison to the current agreement.
