The Unit Commendation Award is being issued to Sergeant Rochelet Commond, Officer Nodane Cherisma, Officer Ashley Puckett, Officer Walter Terrell, and Officer Verley Moyton.
On September 29, 2014, The Riviera Beach Police department was awarded the COPS grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. With this grant the department established its first school resource officer SRO unit. This unit was created as a supplement to the everyday enforcement efforts of the police department with the goal of "Bridging the Gap" between the police department and the juveniles that live in or attend school in the City of Riviera Beach.
On Saturday October 29, 2016, the SRO unit conducted its second annual Trunk or Treat event. The goal of this event was to allow families across the City of Riviera Beach to come and participate in a safe Halloween event while interacting with the police officers that serve the community.
This event was a huge success with an estimated attendance of over 800 people. Volunteers for this event included police officers, firemen, local community personalities, and Riviera Beach Council Persons to name a few. Volunteers decorated vehicles in multiple Halloween themes and passed out candies as trick-or-treaters walked from vehicle to vehicle taking pictures and enjoying the safe environment. A "Haunted House" was also constructed which was the highlight of the evening.
The City of Riviera Beach would like to recognize Officers Nodane Cherisma, Ashley Puckett, Walter Terrell, Verley Moyton, and Sergeant Rochelet Commond for the many hours that they put in and their efforts in making this event a success. It was through their hard work and imagination that the City of Riviera Beach was again able to show that it is "The Best Waterfront City in which to Live, Work, and Play!"
