Mayor

The incumbent Legislative Assistant has been acting as the Mayor's Chief of Staff since the initial hiring of legislative assistant to the City in October 2011. The Mayor specifically chose that title based on the employee’s qualifications, experience, and the enhanced workload that would be carried over and above the traditional position of a Legislative Assistant, which is the official title.

When the positions for assistants to the Mayor and Council were created in 2011, there was no distinction of the assistants to members of the voting council from an assistant to the office of the mayor. However, according to research of comparable sized cities, there is a separate classification and job description.

The incumbent will be performing the duties of the Mayor's Chief of Staff and provide support for a broad range of routine and complex administrative tasks that are extremely challenging and time intensive. The incumbent supervises a staff of volunteers that work in the office of the mayor  providing services and programs to seniors, veterans, the disabled, returning citizens, and the mayor’s signature mission of putting the unemployed  back to work through multiple job fairs. In addition to performing numerous other projects that are unique to the Mayor of Riviera Beach.

Research of mayors' assistants with the same duties and responsibilities, working 40 hours a week, whereas the Mayor’s current assistant is required to work 30 per week, has led to this request for the formal reclassification. Considering the experience, job description, job performance, and term of service as acting Mayor's Chief of Staff, request is that the position be formally reclassified to Mayor's Chief of Staff and it remains at 30 hours a week.

District One

Councilperson Hubbard has determined that the filling of the Legislative Assistant is not necessary at this time and believes her office will benefit most by an Office Assistant/Office Assistant,Senior. In addition, Councilperson Hubbard receives assistance from one of the executive assistant in the City Manager’s Office.  Therefore, Councilperson Hubbard requests a temporary 30 day reclassification of the legislative assistant for District One to Office Assistant/Office Assistant, Senior. At the termination of said temporary position assignment, the classification will revert to the original classification of Legislative Assistant or remain at Office Assistant/Office Assistant, Senior.
