Background/Summary:

West 6^th and 7^th Street, between Australian Avenue and the Avenue P canal, has been scheduled for reconstruction for fiscal year 2015-16. The project consists of demolition of the roadway, installation of exfiltration trench for water quality treatment, construction of new asphalt, curb, gutter and installation of sidewalks. The project was advertised for bids on July 31, 2016. Four bidders submitted bids ranging from $829,417.00 to $1,154,108.78. The lowest bid was submitted by B&B Underground Contractors, Inc. based in West Palm Beach Florida. The Purchasing Department has reviewed the bids and recommends award of bid to the lowest bidder, B&B Underground Contractors, Inc. in the amount of $829,417.00. Staff recommends that the City Council award the bid for reconstruction of West 6^th and 7^th Street, between Australian Avenue and the Avenue P canal to B&B Underground Contractors, Inc. The project is partially funded by the State of Florida (DEP) in the amount of $500,000.00. The balance of funding will be provided from the City’s share of tax on gasoline and the Utility District, for work related to water and sanitary sewer improvements.

Based on the bid results, staff requests City Council approval of contracting with B&B Underground Contractors, Inc. to provide construction services for the reconstruction of 6^th and 7^th between Australian Avenue and the Avenue P canal.
