Accepting the Fiscal Year 2016 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program Solicitation in the amount of $30,365.

Recommendation/Motion: 

Staff recommends the City Council accept the JAG Grant and authorize the Director of Finance and Administrative Services to set up a budget to expend funds in accordance with the budget submitted with the application.

Background/Summary: 

On May 16, 2016, the Bureau of Justice Assistance announced that $30,365 was allocated to the Riviera Beach Police Department through the 2016 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program.  On May 20, 2016, the Police Department submitted the required grant application. 

On September 15, 2016, the Police Department received approval notification of the Award; this grant will be used to purchase additional in-car video systems for patrol vehicles.  In-car video has been proven to increase officer safety, reduce citizen complaints, and aids in the successful prosecution of criminal cases.
