For the past 32 years the City has been celebrating the birthday of the late great civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In January 2017, the City will celebrate its 33rd year of honoring Dr. King's birthday. Staff is requesting City Council considers approving the celebration actives for the 2017 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Festivities. City Council approved in the 2016/2017 Budget, $35,000 for the Dr. Martin Luther King Festivities. In addition, revenue will be generated through fees from parade entries, vendor registrations, banquet tickets, souvenir journal ads and donations. This figure does not include overtime generated by parks and recreation department, public works, fire, police and other departments.

3. Saturday, January 21, 2017 - Awards & Musical Banquet $15,000
