The IT Strategic Master Plan identified a network devoid of Secure Wireless Networks that incorporates the needs of guests and City Staff. The City will be implementing an Enterprise Resource Planning system and this infrastructure is needed to provide users the ability to work throughout the City with mobile devices to complete tasks in a much more efficient and productive manner. This Wireless Infrastructure included with the previously approved Network Infrastructure Agenda Items allows the creation of a modern communication infrastructure that the City will be able to expand its Wireless infrastructures into Parks and areas that citizens frequent to allow them to access to the World Wide Web.
Information Technology created a pilot wireless infrastructure with low cost materials and saw an immediate increase in staff requests and demands of access points in multiple locations due to the users having the ability to travel with wireless devices throughout City facilities and complete their tasks much more efficiently.
