Background/Summary: 
Ban the Box aims at removing the box that asks a candidate if there is past criminal history.  We, on the Reentry Task Force believe that an employer should consider a candidate’s qualifications, first, without a criminal record deciding whether the application may even be considered.  Twelve Hundred inmates per year return to Palm Beach County from Florida prisons.  If Palm Beach County mirrors the rest of the United States, 25% of Palm Beach County’s adult population have a criminal record and face a barrier to employment. By banning the box on your city’s employment forms you will send a strong message to other cities and to the private sector.  Already West Palm Beach, Palm Beach County, and Mangonia Park have banned the box on their employment forms.  The national retailers Target, Home Depot and Walmart and Koch Industries have banned the box as well.
