City staff has received numerous inquiries from contractors and residents requesting swimming pool features and designs, such as infinity pools, which are not permitted under the City's current swimming pool regulations. To address this matter, City staff desires to amend the City's Swimming Pool Code (Sec. 31-546) to permit the construction of more modern swimming pools in the City based on advances in the design and layout of swimming pools. It is important to note, that the current Swimming Pool Code was last amended over 30 years ago; on March 17, 1982.

City staff provided a copy of the proposed amendments to representatives from the Florida Pool Association.  Feedback was provided and representatives from the Florida Pool Association agreed with proposed amendments to the Code. Additionally, the proposed amendments are consistent with and compatible to the standards set forth in the current State of Florida Building Code.  On June 23, 2016, the Planning and Zoning Board reviewed proposed amendments to the Swimming Pool Code and unanimously recommended approval of these amendments to the City Council. 

Staff is recommending approval of this Ordinance.
