A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RIVIERA BEACH, PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT FOR DEMOLITION SERVICES BETWEEN THE CITY OF RIVIERA BEACH AND PALM BEACH COUNTY IN ORDER TO ALLEVIATE SLUM AND BLIGHTED CONDITIONS THROUGH DEMOLITION OF VACANT STRUCTURES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO 3225 AND 3237 AVENUE ‘J’; AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE THE AGREEMENT; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

Background/Summary: 

Palm Beach County has recently made funding available which shall be allocated to alleviate slums and blighted conditions through the demolition of vacant structures.  In August, 2015, the Palm Beach County Department of Economic Sustainability (hereinafter DES) contacted the City of Riviera Beach (hereinafter City) in order to assess local needs for demolition of dilapidated and blighted properties.  Shortly thereafter, the City provided an official response to DES’s aforementioned inquiry, which specifically indicated that demolition of 3225 and 3237 Avenue ‘J’ were high priority demolition items for the City.  In May, 2016, DES provided to the City an Agreement for Demolition Services between Palm Beach County and the City, attached hereto as Exhibit ‘A’.  DES has indicated that they intend to fund the entire cost of demolition associated with demolishing 3225 and 3237 Avenue ‘J’.
