Background/Summary:

The Streets and Grounds Division of the Public Works Department currently does not have a backhoe loader to use for normal and routine tasks.  The needs of the Public Works Department are being fulfilled now by renting the equipment which is not economically practical considering the needs of the department. The machine will be used for road repairs, landscape projects, easement maintenance, as well as for loading of material such as dirt, rock, vegetation, etc. The machine will also be used to respond to emergency issues that are handled by the Department on regular basis.

The Stormwater Division of Public Works currently has an excavator and a boom mower; however, both of these pieces of equipment were purchased quite some time ago and are in need of replacement. The equipment is constantly either in the City’s Fleet Services division getting repairs or is at the authorized repair facility getting repairs done which severely impacts the division’s ability to keep up with maintenance responsibilities. The excavator is used to clean canal bottoms, re-slope canal banks and perform drainage repairs. The boom mower is used to mow the slopes of the canals.

Staff requests that City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing the purchase and delivery of a new John Deere 410L 4wd backhoe loader in the amount of $110,316.50, a new John Deere 180GLC hydraulic excavator in the amount of $158,115, and a new John Deere 6145M tractor with a Tiger 30ft Sabre Boom including a 60in Rotary mower in the amount of $177,701.15 from Nortrax Equipment Company for the total amount of $446,132.65 by piggybacking the Florida Sheriffs Association Contract number 15-23-0904.
