| | | | | | | | Background/Summary: | The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identified the Trans Circuits, Inc. Superfund Site (Solitron) located in Lake Park, Florida in the 1990's. The City of Riviera Beach raw water supply was affected. Remedial actions included temporary funding for the operation and maintenance of the four (4) air stripper (degasification)towers until the new water raw well #2004 was built in 2005. The EPA has an existing groundwater monitoring site located at the southwest corner of West Blue Heron Boulevard and Avenue O. The groundwater contamination plume has stabilized over the years, however, the EPA will continue groundwater monitoring at the site in the foreseeable future to err on the side of caution. Upon inspection of the degasification towers, it was determined the towers have been fouled and there is an urgent need to have the packing removed and replaced. The packing has reached the end of its useful life and has fouled to the point causing pressure on the vessel in excess of its design limits. In addition, the current fouling is preventing the tower from operating at full capacity. |
